PHUKET YOUTH SAILING CLUB

Our Mission

The club aims to promote and develop youth sailing on Phuket. Teaching children dinghy sailing and training them to compete in national regattas not only results in spotting future sailing talent for Thailand, it also brings skills, values and fun that children can transfer to their daily lives.

Phuket Youth Sailing club is open to all youth on Phuket.  We specifically facilitate underprivileged children to participate in club’s activities.  Over 20 sailors already joined the club, 17 of these children live at the Phuket Sunshine Village Foundation (phuketsunshinevillage.org).

Local children that join the club, often have not been on or in the sea before.  In a safe and playful manner they are made comfortable with the water and gradually develop their sailing skills.  Regular training sessions, practice regatta’s and fun sailing helps children build confidence and skills which may result in joining the club’s Sailing Team.

Since it’s start in 2008, the Sailing Team has completed in several regattas in Thailand and International Regatta in China.  The Team aims to further nurture the young sailing talents by providing continuity for the children as they grow and develop their abilities. The sailing Team will be entering a number of regattas, creating incredible sailing opportunities for the youth of Phuket.

The club is volunteer-run and for its finances (dinghy’s, sailing gear, participating in national regatta’s) depends on donations and sponsorships.  The majority of the funding goes towards ensuring that underprivileged children can keep participating in the club’s activities.

We need you support!

Thanks to the generous support from our sponsors, we have already come a long way. However, as with all amateur sports, finding stable financial support is the greatest obstacle to the best intentions.  We need to gain more support in order to keep the sailing program going.  We also need to build up a fleet of dinghy sailing boats so the sailors who grow to old for the Optimist, they can continue sailing and developing their racing talents.
