As we approach the beginning of a new training year, the Phuket Youth Sailing Club invites local businesses and individuals to demonstrate their support for our continued efforts to offer sailing opportunities to all young people on Phuket.
The future of sailing
The Phuket Youth Sailing Club exists to promote youth sailing on Phuket, encouraging the next generation of sailors to challenge themselves and discover their potential both on and off the water.
One of our core aims is also to provide underprivileged youth with the same opportunities as their more fortunate peers.
Since the program started in 2008, we have trained young sailors on Phuket from complete beginners to competing at National and International Level. Our sailors have been successful in a number of regattas, represented Phuket in major events both in Thailand (National Sports Festival, Phuket Youth Games) and 3 of our sailors represented Thailand at the Double Star Cup, Qingdao, China, last year.
Young people like these are the future of sailing on Phuket. Several of our older team members are now looking at careers in the marine industry, and passing on their skills to their up-and-coming team mates, ensuring that all the hard work and dedication of the last few years will continue to have a positive impact on the next generation of sailors.
Phuket Youth Sailing Club needs your support
All of this could not have been achieved without the continuing generosity of our sponsors. In the last (how many) years, the kind donations of local businesses and individuals have enabled us to keep providing training for Phuket youth, allowing those who would not otherwise get the opportunity to expand their horizons and discover skills that they never knew they had.
In return, we have been able to offer businesses extensive media exposure. Our media sponsors include the Phuket Gazette & PGTV, ensuring coverage all over the island, and SEA Yachting magazine, which reaches audiences across Southeast Asia. Our young sailors participate in all the major national regattas, and we hope in future to see them compete in events throughout the region.
How you can help
Raffle and Silent Auction Prizes
To kick-start our new training year, in October we will be hosting the Phuket Youth Week, giving all young people on Phuket the opportunity to train for and then compete in a regatta that will put them through their paces. For Thai speakers, we have the privilege of hosting two of the Thai National Team coaches, while for English speakers, training will be provided by RYA sailing coaches, in partnership with Topper Sail Phuket, our training provider and the first recognised RYA Dinghy Sailing school in south-east Asia.
In order to make this event a success, we will be holding a raffle and silent auction to raise funds, and are currently looking for prizes to give out. The Grand Prize Draw and auction will take place on October 27th.
Please consider donating an item or a service that will help us raise money. Be it a dinner for two, a night at a resort, or an activity or experience, all donations will be very much appreciated. All donors will have their logos printed on Phuket Youth Week banners and marketing materials, and will be credited on our website and social media pages, as well as receiving mention in our official press releases. Donors are also invited to attend the Grand Prize Draw in order to give out prizes in person.
We need continued support in order to ensure that the best of Phuket’s young sailors get the opportunities that they deserve. Our youth programme aims to allow young people from all walks of life to reap the benefits that learning to sail has to offer. We believe that sailing encourages independence, teamwork, responsibility, and an appreciation of the natural world, helping young people to become valued contributors both to the sailing world and to society at large.
We are passionate about providing young sailors with the chance to better themselves, discovering through their sport that they possess all the strengths and qualities necessary to lead full, productive, healthy and happy lives.
We hope that you will consider offering us your support.
